Turkey apologizes to Kurdish artist Ahmed Qaya after 13 years

ERBIL, June 19 (AKnews) - The Turkish Association of Art Journalists has
decided to apologize to deceased Kurdish artist Ahmed Qaya after 13
years.
Turkish website Sabah reported that the association
decided to apoligize to Qaya and reward him. Musician and Saz player
Umed Yelmaz in Qaya's band will receive the award.
Qaya's wife Ghultan said: "Qaya deserves to receive an award because he dedicated his life to music and art.”
In
1999, Qaya was given an artist of the year award in Turkey and said
that he was going to make a new album containing Kurdish songs.
Qaya
was born in 1957 in Malatia. He fled the country due to Kurdistan
Workers’ Party affiliation charges. The artist died in France in
November 2000 and was buried in Paris.
