23/06/2012 16:59BAGHDAD, June 23 (AKnews) - AKnews photographer Adham Yusuf has won a place in the Iraqi Photography Association's administrative committee in Baghdad after receiving 72 votes.
Elections are held every four years to elect the administrative committee to manage the association's functions.
Photographers Qassem al-Jizani, Hadi al-Najjar, Sabah al-Jumasi, Rasoul Babil, Karim al-Lami, Adham Yusuf Thamer Jaafar, Salman al-Sharei and Zuhair al-Sudani won while Monir al-Baghdadi, Hiam Maen, Ahmed Abdullah and Ahmed Sami won in the reserve committee.
Former member of the administrative committee Rasoul Alwan said: "I guarantee the success of the young persons because they are good and participate in all activities of the association."
The photojournalist Yusuf explained his reasons for running in the election: "There is a need to boost the photographic movement. Change is needed, with all my respect for the colleagues who are in the association. We need to improve the situation of the photographer.
"We aspire to form a syndicate for photographers and this is a legitimate right, as the number of Iraqi photographers belonging to the association is nearly 12,000 photographers and this number allows it to be a syndicate like the other institutions."
The elections were conducted in the presence of Judge Rahman Youssef Rawdan, chairman of the new Baghdad court, and legal expert Tareq Harb. Some 21 candidates participated.
