Human Rights Office in Basra delivers to Tehran remains of Iraqi-Iranian war

Basra, July 29 (Aknews) - The director of the Office of Human Rights in Basra province confirmed on Thursday that the office delivered the Iranian side a number of the remains of Iranian soldiers killed during the Iraqi-Iranian war in 1980, indicating that the handover ceremony was attended by personalities from the Ministry of Human Rights in Iraq.

"The remains were found east of Missan province and were delivered to the Human Rights office in southern region," said Mahdi al-Tamimi.

"The Human Rights Office coordinated with the Iranian side to hand over the remains in accordance with the decrees followed in such events and they agreed about future cooperation between the two parties to receive and deliver the remains of dead soldiers from both sides", he added.

The remains of the bodies were delivered through Shalamjah border between Iran and Basra province (550 kilometres south of Baghdad,) in the presence of the Iranian and Iraqi Offices of Human rights.

The human rights office in Basra handed over Tehran a few months ago remains of Iranian soldiers, the latest delivery was done by the Kuwaiti side, of 55 soldiers killed during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
 
The Iranian-Iraqi war started in September 9, 1980, after bombing the border areas by troops of both sides and continued for eight years, causing for both casualties and material damages; the war stopped on the 8th  of August 1988.
