BAGHDAD, July 23 (AKnews) - The Directorate of Civil Defense stated today that the director of Karkh area brigadier general Walid Karim was killed along with one his bodyguards while others were injured when his convoy was targeted by a car bomb west of the capital.
Brigadier general Kazim Bashir, spokesman of the directorate, said car bomb was parked on the road side in Qadisiya west of Baghdad.
The source added that the explosion caused severe damage to the vehicles of the convoy and that Karim was on his way to his office while he was targeted.
Official security sources in Iraqi police said earlier today that 124 people were either killed or wounded in violent attacks in a number of cities in Iraq.
Over the past few days the capital has witnessed relative calm after a series of explosions hit several cities including the capital Baghdad in June and left dozens of dead and wounded.
