BAGHDAD, June 4 (AKnews) - The legal committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives stated today that the parties draft law sent from the government will be presented for a second reading next week, confirming the absence of complexities on the approval on the law.

mohsen al-saadounCommittee member Mohsen al-Saadoun said: "Many changes were introduced by the legal committee to the draft law submitted by the government. The legislation of the law is very important, whether in the provincial elections or parliamentary elections, to organize the political action in Iraq."

The draft law focuses on the internal systems of the parties and imposing criminal penalties on violators. Party representatives and legal experts rejected this.

Iraq has no law that regulates the work of the parties. Many parties and movements were formed after 2003 and many of them participated in the elections.

The first paragraph of article 39 of the Iraqi constitution concerns the "freedom of formation of associations and political parties”. The enactment of the parties law is very important to put an end to the exchange of accusations between political parties about the extent of their national loyalty and their links to third parties.
