ERBIL, July 23 (AKnews) - The commander of the Syrian Free Army colonel Riad Al-Assaad said the location of President Bashar al-Asad was identified, adding that the army wants to arrest him during the next few days.
Assaad assured in a statement posted on the army's website that the army has succeeded in cooperation with the communication and electronics unit to locate Bashar al-Asad by tracking the radio signals between him and some leaders of his army.
"We are now working on a plan to besiege the place he is hiding in to prevent his escape out of Syria. Asad will be arrested within days and Syrians will be able to witness his public trial in front of the world."
The secretary general of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon said on Saturday: "The Syrian government clearly failed to protect the civilians and the international community is responsible for the application of the UN Charter."
Ban expressed his concern about the "rapid deterioration" of the situation in Syria and the increased suffering of the civilians amid the "fierce battles across the country including the capital".
The chairman of the opposition National Syrian Council Abdul Basit Sida assured on Saturday that the developments in Syria "entered the decisive phase," adding in a press conference in Istanbul that "the diplomatic efforts are moving according to the conditions on the ground".
