Iraqi handball team faces Japan within the opening of the second round games

Baghdad, Feb. 6 (AKnews) A member of the Iraqi Central Handball Union said on Saturday that the Iraqi team will face at the beginning of the fourteenth championship of the Asian handball Cup its Japanese counterpart on Sunday.

Handball"The Iraqi team is in the second group along with Japan and Bahrain teams, where it will play its first match of the championship against the Japanese team in the opening of the second round." Abbas Kamel told The Independent National News Agency of Kurdistan (AKnews).

He added that the tournament began today in the Lebanese capital Beirut, where Jordan's team would be hosted by the Lebanese team within the fourth group and the tournament will begins between the 6th and the 18th of this month with the participation of 12 Asian countries.

He pointed out that "the tournament draw divided the twelve teams into four groups, with each group involving three teams, where two of them will be qualified to the second round. Then the qualifyed teams, which are eight teams, will be distributed among two groups, each consisting of four teams; then two teams of each group will be qualified to the semi-finals before the establishment of the final round of the championship. "

The teams that occupy the top three places at the end of the tournament qualify directly to the World Handball Cup, that will take place in Sweden in 2011.
