Erbil’s Zawra match on Monday decisive in ensuring league title

BAGHDAD, July 8 (AKnews) – Erbil FC is preparing for its most important match against Baghdad’s Zawra on Monday as they seek to secure this year’s Elite League.

Erbil FC lead the Iraqi football league with 66 points while Zawra come in the 8th position with 47 points. The Erbil-Zawra match is expected to kick off on Monday at 17:00 pm local time (1400 GMT) in Baghdad’s Shaab Stadium.

Erbil FC beat Zawra 1-0 in the first leg of the match on Francoi Harir Stadium in Erbil. Erbil is keeping up its record of not losing any match this year in a total of 28 matches with 19 victories and 9 ties.

Despite absence of key players from the formation, President of Erbil FC Abdul Khaliq Massoud is confident of his team.

“Strikers Luay Slah and Mahdi Karim will not be able to to play due to injury” says Massoud, “but Erbil FC has many other good substitute players who can replace them”

“Erbil FC is now closer to securing the title of the Iraqi Elite League.. tomorrow’s match is of great importance as the winning the three points of the match will be a leap towards securing the title”

Erbil have won the Iraqi Elite League cup three times.

However, Zawra are not giving up hope of victory and reducing the differences.

“Zawra are ready to face Erbil and will exert all efforts to secure victory in order to compensate for the lost points and step up in the Elite League rankings” said Abdulrahman Rashid, Zawra FC management board member.
