Moussawi nominates himself for presidency of Iraqi Olympic committee

BAGHDAD, Aug. 28 (AKnews) - The financial secretary of the Iraqi Olympic committee has announced about nominating himself for the presidency of the committee for the next session.

Samir Sadiq al-Moussawi said he has the ability to manage and improve Iraqi sports, adding that any sports figure who has the required specifications and conditions has the right to nominate himself for the presidency of the Olympic committee. He said: "This does not mean that he works against a specific person or for personal purposes."

He assured that he has a strong relationship with the current president of the committee Raad Hamoudi and that the nomination for any position does not mean the presence of disagreement with him.

"The first and final aim of nomination for the presidency is to serve Iraqi sports and improve the achieved results by the Iraqi teams in international competitions, especially after the significant decline witnessed in international tournaments."

Samir al-Moussawi is currently the head of the West Asian federation and vice president of the Asian Judo Federation. He holds the presidency of the Iraqi Judo Federation and the post of financial secretary for the Iraqi Olympic committee.
