Media weakens opinion polls on elections

Dahuk, March 4 (AKnews)- The phenomenon of Iraqi polls centers that publish in various media stations the results of polls for the upcoming Iraqi elections is increasing and the majority of the polls centers belong to civic organizations and independent research centers.

And about the neutrality and reliability of these results some media reporters and journalists in Iraq gave their opinions:
" We can rely on the results of the polls relatively or decisively because the final outcome of the elections will be declared by the ballot boxes, and the polls are just speculation that we cannot depend on ." Raad Aljammas: a reporter for Alsumaria TV in Nineveh told the Independent National News Agency of(AKnews).
He pointed out that the Iraqi arena "need more deep scientific study to apply these studies clearly and with transparency and impartiality."

The journalist Iyad Al Banna, the director of Nineveh regional office for "Nation" (Mouttahida) satellite channel which main headquarters is in London, said to (AKnews): "The presence of centers for opinion poll indicates a good state, as they exist in all countries of the world and this is a new cases within the Iraqi society, and I consider it good regardless whether the declared results were right or wrong. " Adding that the "pollsters gives the opportunities for civil society organizations to start working, and it also assess the Iraqi situation in the future."
He pointed out to the importance of these polls, because they "take the opinions of the citizens in the society, and those citizens might show true the measurements and give specific results, but those results can be considered as a criterion for the electoral process because the electoral process in Iraq will include a lot of fraud, or perhaps will bring surprises for certain lists.
Sindbad Ahmed Shawkat,the reporter of FaihaaTV in Nineveh told (AKnews) that "we should not rely on such polls because if we followed carefully and diligently the satellite channels that publish them, we will note that the price of the ads is paid."

"these parties that are trying to promote for themselves pay for the satellite channels, whether they were independent or directed, to distribute such ads."
Ghazwan AL Shammani, a correspondent for Assyria TV in Nineveh told (AKnews) that: "We can never rely on the results of the surveys which began increasing recently" adding that: "I can tell that the results are politicized and serve the interests of the party that is doing such surveys."
About the neutrality of opinion polls Al Shammani said: "It is difficult to say that its results are neutral, but the proof will be at the ballot boxes and Unfortunately, we are still novices with the democratic tactics."
Ismail Taher, the secretary of Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, Dahuk branch said to (AKnews) that:" these polls are accurate and scientific but they not correspond largely to reality" pointing at the same time that "some of them are close to reality and others fail.
Iraq vote to start on March 7- Sunday.19 million people in 18 Iraqi provinces are entitled to elect 325 Iraqi parliament members, 82 of them would be women. One million and 900 thousand voters will cast ballots in 16 countries outside Iraq.
Hundreds of local and international journalists, observers and NGOs including the UN eye the polls polls to bring success to the Iraqi born democracy.
